Il apprend l\u00e0 notamment l&rsquo;anglais, le fran\u00e7ais et c\u00f4toie de multiples cultures\u00a0: africaine, japonaise, am\u00e9ricaine\u2026 En 1975, son chemin croise pour la premi\u00e8re fois celui d\u2019un h\u00f4tel, le\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Meiringen\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Meiringen\">Meiringen<\/a>, dans lequel il travaille comme apprenti. Mais il se rend compte que ce travail ne lui convient pas, pas plus que les multiples autres petits boulots qu&rsquo;il exercera durant quelque temps pour la Poste suisse, en usine ou dans des bars. \u00c0\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Zurich (ville)\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zurich_(ville)\">Zurich<\/a>\u00a0il suit des cours de\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Vid\u00e9o\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vid%C3%A9o\">vid\u00e9o<\/a>\u00a0dans une \u00e9cole d\u2019art dont il sort trois ans plus tard\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Artiste\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artiste\">artiste<\/a>\u00a0dipl\u00f4m\u00e9. \u00c0 17 ans, il joue dans son premier groupe,\u00a0<i>The Noise Boys<\/i>, qui ne survivra que quelques mois. Au d\u00e9part, Stephan Eicher r\u00e9alise les\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Super 8\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Super_8\">Super 8<\/a>\u00a0et les photos projet\u00e9es lors des concerts du groupe et, par la suite, il y joue du\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Synth\u00e9tiseur\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Synth%C3%A9tiseur\">synth\u00e9tiseur<\/a>\u00a0et de la\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Guitare\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guitare\">guitare<\/a>. En parall\u00e8le, il enregistre en septembre 1980 son premier album solo sur un\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Dictaphone\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dictaphone\">dictaphone<\/a>\u00a0:\u00a0<i>Stephan Eicher spielt The Noise Boys<\/i>. Avec l&rsquo;album\u00a0<i>Eisb\u00e4r<\/i>, Grauzone conna\u00eet un v\u00e9ritable succ\u00e8s. Souhaitant prendre un peu de distance, Stephan Eicher arr\u00eate pendant un an la musique et part pour\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Bologne\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bologne\">Bologne<\/a>\u00a0comme programmateur d&rsquo;une radio\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"F\u00e9ministe\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%A9ministe\">f\u00e9ministe<\/a>. En 1982, il rencontre le groupe\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Liliput\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liliput\">Liliput<\/a>\u00a0avec lequel il tourne en\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"France\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/France\">France<\/a>\u00a0et en\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Allemagne\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Allemagne\">Allemagne<\/a>\u00a0pendant quelque temps comme guitariste\u00a0;\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #a55858; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Klaudia Schifferle (page inexistante)\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Klaudia_Schifferle&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Klaudia Schifferle<\/a>, la bassiste leader de Liliput, peintre et po\u00e8te \u00e9galement, \u00e9crira plus tard des chansons pour lui. Il rencontre\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Martin Hess\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martin_Hess\">Martin Hess<\/a>, alors manager de Liliput, qui finit par encadrer la carri\u00e8re solo de Stephan Eicher. Ils se lient d&rsquo;amiti\u00e9. En 1984, il participe en France \u00e0 de nombreux festivals, comme les\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Transmusicales\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Transmusicales\">Transmusicales<\/a>\u00a0de\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Rennes\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rennes\">Rennes<\/a>\u00a0ou Le\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Printemps de Bourges\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Printemps_de_Bourges\">Printemps de Bourges<\/a>\u00a0et donne un concert aux\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Les Bains Douches\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Les_Bains_Douches\">Bains Douches<\/a>, bo\u00eete de nuit parisienne.<\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white; color: #252525; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 0.5em; margin-top: 0.5em;\">Ses chansons\u00a0<i>Two People in a Room<\/i>\u00a0(extraite de\u00a0<i>I Tell This Night<\/i>) en 1986 puis\u00a0<i>Combien de temps<\/i>\u00a0(extrait de\u00a0<i>Silence<\/i>) en 1988 le rendent tr\u00e8s populaire en\u00a0<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"France\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/France\">France<\/a>, il joue pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 l\u2019<a style=\"background: none; color: #0b0080; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Olympia (Paris)\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Olympia_(Paris)\">Olympia<\/a>\u00a0le 20 mars 1986. Ce succ\u00e8s atteint son apoth\u00e9ose en 1991\/1992 avec l&rsquo;album\u00a0<i>Engelberg<\/i>\u00a0(plus de 600\u00a0000 albums vendus en France et plus de 100\u00a0000 en Suisse). \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, Stephan Eicher est tr\u00e8s sensible au charme des chambres d&rsquo;h\u00f4tels, il y enregistre cet album ainsi que le suivant\u00a0<i>Carcassonne<\/i>, qui sort en 1993.
