Il s&rsquo;agit de d\u00e9finir des protocoles communs pour permettre une facilit\u00e9 d&rsquo;utilisation du contenu par un ensemble de services ext\u00e9rieurs. Convergence forte avec le mouvement \u00ab\u00a0Open source\u00a0\u00bb de l&rsquo;informatique libre. Un logiciel libre, contrairement \u00e0 une id\u00e9e commune r\u00e9pandue, ne signifie pas que ce logiciel soit gratuit. Un logiciel est qualifi\u00e9 de \u00ab\u00a0libre\u00a0\u00bb dans la mesure o\u00f9 l&rsquo;acc\u00e8s \u00e0 son code-source est libre, ce qui donc n&rsquo;a rien \u00e0 voir avec son prix. Chacun peut utiliser, copier, distribuer et modifier librement un logiciel libre. Par ailleurs, les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s commerciales peuvent \u00e9ventuellement en tirer profit en le distribuant. Le logiciel libre s&rsquo;oppose \u00e0 la notion de logiciel propri\u00e9taire dont l&rsquo;utilisation, la redistribution et toute modification sont interdites ou exigent une autorisation sp\u00e9cifique. Il faut donc conclure sur une certaine ambigu\u00eft\u00e9 du terme \u00ab\u00a0Archive ouverte\u00a0\u00bb, il n&rsquo;a pas la m\u00eame signification selon son contexte d&rsquo;utilisation.
